Caramelized Onion Dip {keto-approved}

  • 4 C yellow onions sliced into 1/8" rounds, then quartered
  • 1 TBS butter or ghee preferably organic
  • 3 TBS avocado oil  - I like Trader Joe's brand
  • two shakes of red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp.  Celtic gray sea salt
  • f1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 oz. 1/2 brick full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 C organic full-fat sour cream 
  • 1/2 C organic premium quality mayonnaise preferably homemade



  • Heat butter and oil in a cast iron skillet on medium heat. 
  • Add onions, chili flakes, salt, & pepper and sauté for about 10 minutes or until translucent. 
  • Reduce heat to medium/low and cook onions for another 15-20 minutes, until caramelized. 
  • Remove onions from pan and drain on a paper towel. 
  • Place cream cheese, sour cream, and mayo in a medium bowl and mash with a potato masher until well combined and smooth. 
  • Add onions & mix well. 
  • Adjust seasonings to your taste. Serve at room temperature with crudités or trader Joe's parsnip chips. Yummy!
